Bureah of Reclamation

Bureau of Reclamation, Department of the Interior
Established in 1905, the Bureau of Reclamation's "raison d'etre" was to construct federal irrigation projects in the arid West. To a large extent, this is still the primary object of the agency although recreation, fish and wildlife conservation also plays an important part in the agency's mission. Recreational uses of the Bureau's lakes and reservoirs are usually regulated by other federal or state agencies.

For additional information on the Bureau of Reclamation, please visit the Department of Interior's web site at www.usbr.gov.
