Oregon Badlands Wilderness, Oregon
Recommended Maps & Books Wilderness.net Share With a Friend
Description: 29,301 acres protects an old shield volcano in central Oregon. This relatively flat area is dotted with stands of juniper and rocky outcrops. A number of unmaintained trails criss-cross the area, but all trails are unmarked; many are unmapped.
The Badlands Rock Trail, a 6 mile round-trip hike or horse ride that climbs a towering outcrop, rewards your efforts with a panoramic view of central Oregon. The Flatiron trail, between 5-6 miles round trip, skirts around the Badlands volcano, and descends into the Flatiron, an unusual volcanic formation.
Location: From Bend, go 18 miles east on OR 20. Turn left at the gravel piles, over the cattle guard, and go 1 mile on the paved road. Park at the BLM kiosk for the Badlands Rock Trail trailhead. Access to the Flatiron Trailhead is 16 miles east of Bend.
