From Vancouver travel north to explore the scenic Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument, or to explore the forest roads in the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District with opportunities for camping, hiking, scenic driving, fishing, or OHV trail riding. Access the eastern part of the forest from Trout Lake with numerous forest roads, hiking trails, campgrounds, and some OHV trails. From Packwood travel north into Mount Rainier National Park, or explore the forest roads in the area, or hike to Packwood Lake adjacent to Goat Rocks Wilderness.
