Description: 2950-foot elevation. The refuge encompasses 880 acres of managed habitat for upland game birds and waterfowl. The area is on a terrace on the Snake River, and natural springs feed marshes, irrigate croplands, and give water to the hatchery. A mild climate keeps the waters ice-free during the winter, attracting thousands of ducks, geese, and raptors. The addition of nesting boxes has increased the number of birds, including herons and other shorebirds, who stay through the spring to hatch and rear their young. Fishing for rainbow trout, largemouth bass and bluegill. Hunting for ducks, geese, pheasant, quail, and mule deer.

The hatchery raises several strains of rainbow trout and various specialty species for statewide distribution. Wildlife viewing blind at Riley Creek Pond. Hiking trails lead to and around Oster Lakes. The state fish hatchery has a visitor center, fish viewing sites, and information displays. Guided group tours are by reservation. Also located nearby is Hagerman National Fish Hatchery, part of the US Fish and Wildlife Refuge System.

Location: Take I-84 to exit 141 then go south 12.5 miles on US 30, past the turnoff for the National Fish Hatchery, and turn east at the sign.
