Description: 5000-7300 foot elevation. 28,750 acre reserve offers winter range for big game, rising from upland desert through juniper communities to high slopes forested with firs and aspen. Riparian areas are found at the bottom of lava-rimmed canyons. About 2000 elk, a handful of moose, and 3000 mule deer find nutritious forage here in the winter. Sharp-tailed grouse display and breeding sites are also managed and protected. Sharp-tailed grouse and partridge are common in the sage desert, blue and ruffed grouse in the woodlands, and songbirds in the riparian areas. The dry, hot climate also provides prime reptile habitat for a range of snakes and lizards. When water levels permit, fishing for cutthroat, brook, and brown trout. Camping in designated areas only.
Location: From Idaho Falls, go 14 miles northeast on ID 26. Go right at the Ririe Dam/Recreation Area sign and follow Meadow Creek Road southeast past the dam to the WMA.
