Nestled in the rugged front range of the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson, Arizona, Sabino Canyon is part of the Coronado National Forest. The lush, riparian vegetation along Sabino Creek stands in sharp contrast to the dry, saguaro-studded slopes above the canyon floor. A paved road climbs five hundred feet in four miles from the visitor center and crosses the creek on nine stone bridges as it winds its way up the canyon. The road is closed to traffic but visitors can ride open air shuttle buses, walk along the road, or hike one of the trails that lead deeper into the canyons and the high country. Nearby Bear Canyon with its spectacular Seven Falls waterfall is a four-mile hike from Sabino Canyon through beautiful riparian habitat. Sabino Canyon Visitor Center is open seven day a week except Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Center features a bookstore and exhibits on the natural and cultural history of Sabino Canyon.
