PLIA Now Operating at Three Rivers Petroglyph Site
We are proud to partner with the Bureau of Land Management to operate a bookstore in the visitor center at this incredible site, showing the best of the natural beauty and extensive Indigenous cultures in Southern New Mexico. Off of US-54 just a few miles north of Tularosa, NM, this site is one of the densest collections of rock art in the region. |
After you amble through the trails featuring views of thousands of petroglyphs, enjoy camping at the on-site hosted sites for tents and RVs, or drive just up the road to the creek-side Forest Service campground in the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains.
This spot was of great importance to the Jornada Mogollon, who left the abundance of petroglyphs and a nearby excavated village as their legacy. This is a place of transition, from the Chihuahuan Desert wildlife below to the sky islands of the Sacramentos, and from the past to the present, as well. We hope you'll consider visiting this spot and the nearby Valley of Fires Recreation Area, the Lincoln National Forest, and White Sands National Park. This region of southern New Mexico is densely packed with things to see and do, while also preserving the character of the desert and forest wildernesses. As always, venture with caution, even when the beauty of the area can leave you awe-struck.
