From noted New Mexico author Robert Julyan, this book is a guide to many of the lesser-known sites with fascinating stories. While only a handful of sites are discussed, each entry has a wealth of information about the fascinating episodes that took place there, as well as directions to specific sites, with GPS coordinates as well.

Every site chosen for the book isn't easily accessible by vehicle, requiring time on foot to access. Especially in areas as vast as the Pecos Wilderness, they may require an overnight backpacking trip to explore fully. 

For those interested in the history of New Mexico and want to explore its sites below the surface, this book is an essential guide. Hikers will get plenty out of it as well, adding context and cultural richness to many hikes in the state.
