From Placerville travel northwest to Auburn State Recreation Area for camping, hiking, ATV riding, boating, and fishing. Closer to Placerville are opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking at Cronan Ranch Regional Trails Park. East of Placerville explore Eldorado National Forest while heading to Lake Tahoe. Many opportunities for camping, fishing, boating, and hiking along the way; visit Union Valley Reservoir, Ice House Reservoir, or Lower Bear River Reservoir. A section of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail can be accessed at Echo Summit near Desolation Wilderness.
