From Republic travel east on Sherman Pass National Scenic Byway to explore Coleville National Forest, hike/backpack on Kettle Crest NRA, or camp. West of Republic is more of Coleville NF; and sections of Okanogan National Forest to the south or northwest. Swan Lake and Ferry Lake provide camping, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and boating opportunities. From Kettle Falls travel west to Franklin D Roosevelt Lake/Columbia River to enjoy camping, fishing, and boating.
