PLIA operates a small sales outlet in the Clifton Ranger District Office in the southern end of Apache National Forest. Interpretive and educational items in the store include maps and atlases, guidebooks, relevant natural history titles, and educational toys.

The Apache and Sitgreaves National Forests encompass more than 2 million acres of magnificent mountain country in east-central Arizona. Sitgreaves National Forest stretches across the Mogollon Rim; from its 7,600-foot elevation several vista points offer panoramic views of the desert to the south.  Apache National Forest drops off the eastern edge of the Mogollon Rim and runs along the New Mexico border to the high desert around Clifton.  The Forest is home to the endangered Mexican wolf and to the Apache trout, one of only two trout native to Arizona. Visitors who seek solitude and a glimpse of primitive America will find them in three wilderness areas as well as in the Blue Ridge Primitive Area which extends into New Mexico.

The Clifton Ranger District ranges in elevation from 3,650 to 9,184 feet and offers ample opportunities for mountain biking, camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. The Coronado Trail National Scenic Byway bisects the ranger district as it runs the entire length of Apache National Forest; it is a spectacular two lane highway with panoramic viewpoints.
