From Tulelake travel south into the western part of Modoc NF to visit Lava Beds National Monument, or explore the forest south to Medicine Lake with camping, fishing, and boating. Scenic drive the California Backcountry Discovery Trail which leads east to Goose Lake. From Alturas travel east to a section of the forest for camping, rock collecting, fishing at Stough Reservoir, or hiking/horse riding in South Warner Wilderness. Explore the forest northwest of Alturas enjoy camping, boating and fishing at Big Sage Reservoir, and scenic driving on the California Back Country Discovery Trail.
